Conservation Parks ...
Part of the beautiful scenery surrounding Victor Harbor is the conservation parks. Perfect camping places, picnic locations, or unique walking trails, these conservation parks all provide spectacular scenery and the opportunity to see a diverse range of South Australia's best wildlife - and you don't have to go far.
Deep Creek Conservation Park
Deep Creek is located just 45 minutes from Victor Harbor yet maintains a rugged remoteness. Covering some 4,500ha, it is the largest remaining natural wildlife habitat on the Fleurieu Peninsula. Recreational opportunities include bushwalking trails, camping in five campgrounds and viewing the spectacular scenery of the Backstairs Passage, Kangaroo Island and the Deep Creek Valley. See diverse wildlife including seabirds, Western Grey kangaroos, short-beaked echidnas and yellow-tailed cockatoos.
Newland Head Conservation Park
This 945ha coastal conservation park is 12km west of Victor Harbor and includes Waitpinga and Parsons Beaches. The latter are noted for their fishing, hard-breaking surf and beachcombing. A series of signposted walking trails start from both beaches. There are camping facilities at Waitpinga, including free gas barbecues, rainwater tanks, public conveniences and shelter.
Talisker Conservation Park
Talisker covers 134ha and has the historic Talisker silver and lead mine as its focus. Surrounded by steep wooded hills, the old Cornish miners' diggings are listed on the state's register of heritage items. An interpretive display and walking trail enable you to explore the mine, its history, natural features and vegetation. |
